Jansen Wins Three Events To Lead Panthers

Jansen broke her own school record in the hammer throw for the second consecutive week, throwing 202 feet, 7 inches to take the top spot and set new meet and Cretzmeyer Track records, as well. Jansen set the previous school standard with a throw of 201-2 at last weekend's Drake Relays.
The senior also Saturday set new meet and facility records with her winning heave of 54-1 in the shot put and claimed the discus title with a season-best throw of 171-1.Jansen has already qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in all three events this season.
Also for the Panther women, senior Meredith Kosmacek-Simon took the title in the 100 meters in at 12.26 seconds and was fourth in the 200 meters, while senior Amy Bagge won the 800 meters in 2:16.27.
Yet another senior, Kara Yahn, took the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.69 and just missed regional qualification with her runner-up time of 13.99 in the 100-meter hurdles.
On the men's side, sophomore Ehi Oamen claimed his second-consecutive win the high jump, backing up his Drake Relays championship of a week ago with a winning leap of 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches on Saturday.
Also, junior Tyler Mulder made it a sweep of the men's and women's 800 meters for the Panthers with his second win in the 800 meters in as many tries this outdoor season. Mulder posted a winning time of 1:49.99, while senior Jarrel Anderson won the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.29 seconds. More importantly,
Junior Dennis Hammel will compete at the regional meet in the 400-meter hurdles following his runner-up performance of 52.32.
Freshman Lucas Cook took third in the hammer with a team-leading mark of 177-4.
Redshirt freshman Phil Hanson matched his career-best - and UNI's season-best - mark in the men's pole vault by clearing 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches to take runner-up honors behind Minnesota's Brock Spandl, who matched Hanson's height on fewer misses to earn the win.
Senior Andy Schon took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:40.44.
In addition to Jansen's performances in the women's throws, sophomore Courtney Landers took fourth in the hammer throw with a personal-best effort of 166-8, while Sarah Harms was third in the shot put with a throw of 44-1 1/4.
Also, Emily Prinsen set a personal-best mark in the javelin with a throw of 136-3 that earned the sophomore a runner-up finish.
Rozle Bucalo took the runner-up spot in the men's long jump with a leap of 22-11 3/4, while sophomore Jamie Wieck was third on the women's side with a season-best jump of 18 feet, 4 1/2 inches. Senior Stacy Butt took fourth with her leap of 17-11.
Wieck also earned a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash, finishing second to Kosmacek-Simon in 12.65 seconds. Senior Lauren Carruthers also earned a second-place finish, clocking in at 56.07 to take the runner-up spot in the 400 meters.
Freshman Holli Hosch was third in the 800 meters in 2:19.23, with fellow freshman Ellen Kindelsperger taking fourth in 2:20.11.
Senior Crystal Hanson was fifth in the high jump with a clearance at 5 feet, 5 inches, a height teammate Rachel VanderHolt matched her way to a seventh-place finish.
