Freshman Dani Stipe (
Stipe began the final day of competition with a 17th-place showing in the long jump, leaping 18 feet, 6 1/2 inches. She followed that with a 21st-place effort in the javelin, throwing 110 feet, 4 inches. She then clocked a 2:20.48 in the day's final event, scoring a 10th-place finish in the 800 meters.
Oamen cleared 7 feet, 3/4 inch on his third and final attempt after a pair of misses at the initial height to stay alive in the competition. He could not clear the next height, however, as he was unable to get over the bar at 7 feet, 1 1/2 inches. That mark would have improved Oamen's personal best by a half-inch, but the freshman settled for a 14th-place finish.
The Panther men stand 21st in the team standings heading into the meet's final day with a total of four team points, the school's most since scoring five points in 2001. The men's 4x400 meter relay team has an opportunity to add to that score in Saturday's finals, while junior Rachel Jansen (Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) will compete for all-America honors in the finals of the women's shot put.
Saturday's final rounds will be televised live nationally on CBS, beginning at noon Central time.
