Panthers Provisionally Qualify Four at Meyo Invitational

The University of Northern Iowa men's and women's track and field programs wrapped up competition at the Meyo Invitational this afternoon, one of the premier indoor meets in the country.
Two Panthers provisionally qualified for the Division I NCAA Indoor Championships in the 800-meter run. Senior Tyler Mulder took second and third respectively, with indoor personal-best times of 1:49.24 and 1:49.48. Additionally, UNI holds five of the top-six season times in the 800 in the MVC, including senior Tim Fulton (1:51.79) and junior Nick Sorbe (1:52.74).
Also provisionally qualifying was the men's 4x400-meter relay team of senior Cory Goos, junior Terrence Reid and junior Ryan Grenko. UNI's 4x400-meter relay team holds the fastest time in the Valley by nearly seven seconds. The squad took first place with a time of 3:10.24. UNI's second relay team, sophomore Kevin Roberts, junior Brent Dahlstrom, Mulder and Smith, placed fourth in 3:13.11.
Friday, pole vaulter Andre Poljanec recorded the third-highest jump in the nation this season, leaping 17-8.50. UNI's pole vaulters have claimed the top-three season heights this season in the Valley.
Freshman Dorian Ulrey won the mile run with the second-fastest time in UNI history, 4:05.76. Ulrey now holds the fastest season times in the MVC in the mile run and 3K.
Grenko ran an indoor-personal best time in the 400-meter dash (47.58), narrowly missing the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Freshman Cory Goos placed ninth in 47.82 in the event. Both lead the Valley in the event.
Senior Ehi Oamen finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 6-9 (2.06m). Freshman Josh Bradley tied his season-best, jumping 6-7.
Junior Jamie Hutchinson finished 12th in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:11.70. Senior Kara Yahn took 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.73.
UNI's 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of junior Lauren Carruthers, Hutchinson, Pam Kyeremateng and senior Lynnette Wilson, turned in a season-best time of 3:47.06 to finish sixth. This is the fastest time in the Valley by a healthy three seconds.
Junior Meredith Kosmacek finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a 24.91 time, a season-best. Wilson and Kyeremateng placed 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 400 with season-best times of 56.25 and 56.68. Senior Shayla Houlihan had a personal-best time of 5:08.31 in the mile.
Senior Rachel Jansen won the shot put, throwing 52-9.50 (16.09m) Senior Yana Kruglikova claimed 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 38-7.75 (11.78m).
