Panther soccer drops 3-0 match at Northern Illinois in road opener

Panthers fall to Huskies in central Illinois.
DEKALB, Ill. --- The UNI soccer team competed in its first road trip of the 2026 season on Sunday, falling short in a 3-0 loss to Northern Illinois in non-conference play.
Northern Iowa tallied a season-high six shots on goal in Sunday's contest, but were unable to find the back of the net for a fourth consecutive game. The Huskies meanwhile controlled the pace offensively, tallying 19 shots with ten shots on goal in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NIU's Julianna Hill netted the first goal of the game with a goal in the 8th minute of game action on an assist from Dahlia Rodriquez for the lone score of the opening stanza. Ella Ubben and Abi Roberts would each create scoring attempts for the Panthers in the first 45 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net with their shot attempts.
The Huskies quickly extended their lead coming out of halftime with a goal from Dahlia Rodriguez in the 46th minute of action and added another goal from Monica Correa in the 71st minute. The Panthers notched three solid chances in the early second half with shots-on-goal from Kylie Knief, Shaelee Franck and Torie Delgado, but were ultimately saved by NIU goalkeeper Alexandra Devory. Northern Illinois connected on their third goal of the contest in the 71st minute courtesy of Huskies forward Monica Correa.
UNI goalkeeper Hailey Luedtke finished the match with seven saves in her second career start in goal.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Northern Illinois evens the all-time series with UNI with a 2-2-1 record. The Panthers had won the previous two matchups with NIU in 2017 and 2018.
- UNI set multiple team season-high marks in the loss to Northern Illinois, including shot attempts (12), shots on goal (6) and corner kicks (7), as well as a season-low seven fouls committed.
- Shaelee Franck made her first career start in Sunday's match, the fourth match of her collegiate career.
