Panthers fall to in-state rival Drake, 7-0

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to in-state and conference rival Drake on Sunday afternoon at the Black Hawk Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs (7-9) secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the opening point. At No. 1 doubles Maja Dodik and Jordane Dookie defeated Lucia Schuknecht and Andrea Noa Galin, 6-0. Drake followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Abbie Peterson and Kayla Santosa, before closing out the sweep at No. 3 where Shiori Takeda and Milana Dejanovic topped Yangjiaxin Li and Sedina Begic, 6-3.

In singles play, UNI (2-12) battled, but was unable to break through against a strong Drake lineup. Schuknecht pushed Dodik in a tight first set at the No. 1 position, forcing a tiebreak before falling 7-6 (1-0), 6-3.

Li competed at No. 2 singles, dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Kristina Tai. At No. 3, Noa Galin won the opening set 6-4 before Takeda defeated her in the next two sets, 6-3, 6-0.

Peterson fought at the No. 4 spot but fell 7-5, 6-2 to Dookie. Santosa earned a strong first set win at No. 5 singles, 6-1 though Dejanovic rallied to claim the match in three sets, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 6 Sedina Begic faced Klavinska, who secured the match with a 6-0, 6-0 result.
