Panthers rally for a 4-3 home win over Western Illinois

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's tennis team battled back after dropping the doubles point to secure a 4-3 victory over Western Illinois at home, marking the Panthers' second win of the season.

Western Illinois opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Mana Fawcett and Jessica Hess defeated UNI's Andjela Raznatovic and Lucia Schuknecht, 6-4. Chloe Routier and Nadezhda Petkova followed with a 7-5 win over Yangjiaxin Li and Andrea Noa Galin at No. 2, while Richardlyne Francois and Madeleine Whip completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 victory over Abbie Peterson and Kayla Santosa at No. 3.

The Panthers responded with an impressive showing in singles play, winning four of the six matches to clinch the dual.

Lucia Schuknecht set the tone at No. 2 singles, earning a decisive 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Richardlyne Francois. Yangjiaxin Li followed with a straight-set win at No. 3, defeating Nour Gueblaoui 6-3, 6-3.

Andrea Noa Galin added another point for UNI with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 4 singles, topping Madeleine Whip 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Kayla Santosa secured the Panthers' fourth point of the match with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Denver Johnson at No. 5 singles.
