TERRE HAUTE, Indiana --- UNI women's basketball rounded out the road portion of the 2025-26 regular season with a matchup at Indiana State. UNI led from tip to final buzzer as five Panthers finished in double-figures to give UNI a 92-73 victory over Indiana State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers opened the game a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor on an 11-0 run. Taryn Wharton drilled a three-pointer out of the game, which forced a timeout from Indiana State just 19 seconds into the contest. Four straight layups by the Panthers gave UNI an 11-0 lead before a pair of baskets from the Sycamores ended the run. The Panthers followed with a 20-8 run, which included eight points from the free-throw line to break out to an 18-point lead at 31-13. An and-one layup from Jenna Twedt at the end of the quarter gave the Cats a 34-17 lead after 10 minutes on the floor.
Jenna Twedt knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the first three and a half minutes of the second quarter to give the Panthers their first 20-point lead of the game at 42-22. The Sycamores answered each subsequent Panther bucket with two of their own, which cut into the UNI lead. The Cats led the Sycamores 49-32 at the halftime break.
UNI was efficient from the floor in the first half, shooting 51.5% (17-for-33) from the floor and 41.7% (5-for-12) from beyond the arc. Jenna Twedt led the Panther offense with 14 points, including three three-pointers on 75% (3-for-4) shooting from deep. Ryley Goebel also scored in double-figures in the first half with 10 points. She added eight boards and three blocks in the opening 20 minutes of action.
Ryley Goebel scored the first five Panther points of the third quarter, followed by four straight from Taryn Wharton as the Panthers maintained a 20-point lead with just under six minutes left to play in the third frame. Maren Schmotzer knocked down a couple of buckets before Jenna Twedt scored the last five UNI points of the frame, including a three-pointer, to give the Cats a 21-point lead with 10 minutes to play in the contest.
With a 71-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Panthers knocked down three triples and scored six points from the free throw line to take home a 92-73 victory over Indiana State.
Jenna Twedt led the UNI offense with 21 points. She shot 4-for-7 seven from beyond the arc and 7-for-11 from the floor. Ryley Goebel and Taryn Wharton each scored 15 points, while Kaylynn Janes recorded 13 and Elise Jaeger finished with 12 to round out the Panther double-digit scorers. Goebel led UNI with nine rebounds, and Wharton tallied seven assists.
"You know, we've talked about, when this team is balanced, we are really good," said head coach Tanya Warren. "We had five kids in double figures and I thought our offense was really, really good today. We had some kids in foul trouble and I had to mix up some things defensively, but I really like how we shared the basketball."
