Bradley gets hot from three-point range and hands UNI its largest MVC lossof the season.
PEORIA, Illinois --- UNI women's basketball wrapped up a three-game road stretch with a matchup at Bradley on Thursday. The Panther offense couldn't match the fire of the Braves' offense, losing the contest, 69-47, and splitting the season series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Braves took an early lead heading into the first-quarter media timeout with a 7-0 run after a pair of Panther buckets. Bradley held a 9-4 lead after just under seven minutes had passed in the first frame. The Braves went back-to-back out of the break to extend their lead to 10 before Virginia Edmondson sank the third Panther bucket of the quarter to end the run. Bradley tallied the final basket of the first 10 minutes of play and led the Cats, 16-6, heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw more Bradley dominance, as the Braves held UNI to single digits, once again, with nine points. The Braves closed the first half on a 7-0 run and held a 32-15 lead after 20 minutes on the court.
The Cats edged out the Braves in the third quarter, 20-17, but Bradley dominated the final frame, 20-12, to hand UNI its largest conference loss of the season.
The Panther offense was led by Ryley Goebel, the lone double-digit point scorer of the night with 10 points. She added three blocks, three steals, and three rebounds. Elise Jaeger finished with 13 boards, including three on the offensive end of the court, four assists, and two blocks.
"I liked how we came out in the third quarter," said head coach Tanya Warren. "I thought our offensive execution was better and we got stops. We got in a little bit of an offensive flow, but then when we got ourselves back in it, we gave up back-to-back threes, and that hurts you. This is going to sound crazy, but we actually defended well in the first half, our offense wasn't good enough. There was a lack of execution, we were trying to play one-on-one, the ball was getting stuck on the same side, so, we can take away a lot from this game in terms of our offensive execution."
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI drops to 11-11 overall and 7-5 in Valley play with the loss to Bradley. UNI still holds the all-time series with a record of 54-38.
- The Panthers continued an active program-record 568-game three-pointer streak with six triples against the Braves.
