CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- Winners of five of its last seven games, the UNI men's basketball team hits the road on Wednesday night to begin the final two week stretch of the 2025-26 regular season with a visit to Indiana State in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT with live coverage available on ESPN+ and the Panther Sports Radio Network (93.5 The Mix) with J.W. Cox and Kevin Boyle on the call.
The Panthers have won their last three matchups against the Sycamores, including a 75-66 win back on New Year's Day in Cedar Falls. Indiana State leads the all-time series, 37-34.
Northern Iowa rolled past Drake on Sunday afternoon with a strong shooting half of 62% in an 86-62 win over the Bulldogs. UNI has now scored 80+ points in three straight games for the first time since the 2021-22 season, and has had three straight games with at least four players scoring in double figures.
Max Weisbrod and Will Hornseth both finished with 18 points as both Trey Campbell and Leon Bond III each notched 14 points against Drake. Ben Schwieger also added eight points with a career-high tying three blocks.
UNI leads all of Division I men's basketball in scoring defense with 61.3 points allowed per game, giving up 70+ points just four times this season. The Panthers are 12-2 when holding teams to 60 or fewer points this year.
Northern Iowa also ranks third in Division I in three-point percentage defense, limiting opponents to just 27.6% from beyond the arc. Entering their game against Indiana State, the Panthers have held 13 of their last 17 opponents under 30% from three-point range.
UNI's scoring defense is currently on pace for the fourth-best mark since transitioning to a Division I program (1980-81). The Panthers have made the NCAA Tournament each of the previous three seasons when giving up 60 points or fewer. The Panthers are also 30th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.405). UNI's opponents have also shot over 50% only three times this year.
Campbell looks to continue to add to the record book against the Sycamores. Having scored his 1,000th career point in December, Campbell's 123 career starts at UNI are third-most in program history, and the most among all active players in the MVC. Campbell is also fourth in team history in career steals (160), sixth in three-point field goal attempts (534) and eighth in made three-pointers (200). With 28 more rebounds, Campbell can also become the first player in UNI history to record 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 300 career assists.
Hornseth also looks to continue to be a strong presence inside the paint, recently taking over as UNI's career shooting percentage leader (63.8%) with a minimum of 100 made shots. He has also scored ten or more points in seven consecutive games, while also maintaining the fifth-highest single-season shooting clip in team history (.615).
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
The Sycamores welcome the Panthers to the Hulman Center amid a three-game skid and tenth place standing in the MVC standings. Indiana State came up just short in a 76-75 loss at Valparaiso on Sunday, marking its eighth loss in the last nine games.
Led by second year head coach Matthew Graves, the Sycamore rank 21st in the nation and second in the league with 17.9 assists per game, as well as third in the MVC in three-point field goal attempts per contest (26.2).
Ian Scott leads Indiana State with 13.5 points a game, with Camp Wagner (11.7 PPG) and Sterling Young (10.2) have also averaged double figures this season. Xavier Hall meanwhile leads the conference with 4.4 assists per game.
