CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team will look to bounce back this weekend as it travels to Omaha, Nebraska, to face Creighton on Friday, Feb. 13, followed by Omaha on Saturday, Feb. 14.
UNI enters the weekend after falling 6-1 to North Dakota last Saturday at the Black Hawk Tennis Center. The Panthers battled throughout the lineup despite adjusting their singles positions due to injury, which moved each player up one spot.
Lucia Schuknecht highlighted the afternoon for UNI, earning the team's lone point dominantly at No. 1 singles. Competing at the top of the lineup for the first time this season, Schuknecht defeated Ethel Li in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. Her performance marked a strong step forward as the Panthers continue to solidify their singles order.
In doubles play against the Fighting Hawks, UNI came up just short in tightly contested matches. North Dakota secured the doubles point with three 6-4 victories at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 positions.
The Panthers will aim to carry the momentum from Schuknecht's win into the weekend as they face two competitive Summit League opponents. Friday's match against Creighton provides an opportunity for UNI to reset and sharpen its doubles combinations, while Saturday's contest at Omaha closes out the two-match road swing.
First serve is scheduled for Friday at 12:30 p.m. CT in Omaha, Nebraska, with Saturday's match to follow at 5:30 p.m. CT.
