CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The 14th ranked UNI wrestling team will return to open tournament competition this Sunday as the Panthers make the short trip to Ames for the 2026 Harold Nichols Cyclone Open.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT at Hilton Coliseum. Live results for the tournament can be found on FloWrestling.
This year's event includes athletes from Arizona State, Cornell, Illinois, Iowa State, Little Rock, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota State and Tarleton State.
Northern Iowa visits Ames following a perfect 5-0 dual performance and team title at the NWCA/USMC Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships in the UNI-Dome last weekend. The Panthers shutout both Cal State Bakersfield and Ohio on the opening day of action, followed by wins over Bloomsburg and Drexel, plus a championship dual upset win over No. 8 South Dakota State.
UNI won 41 of 50 bouts at the NWCA duals, including 25 victories in bonus points. Nick Fox (184 pounds) earned two pins in his four wins, while Ryder Downey (165 pounds) also went 4-0 on the weekend to improve to 13-2 on the year. The Panthers are set to return to dual competition on Thursday, Jan. 22 when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils in Big 12 action.
