Panther student-athletes show continued academic growth in fall 2025 semester

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI student-athletes continued to show exceptional academic growth both individually and as collective teams during the fall 2025 semester, surpassing departmental goals once again.
The fall semester saw 11 of UNI's 15 teams record a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.40 or higher, including seven over 3.50. Collectively, Panther student-athletes posted a semester GPA of 3.39 and a cumulative of 3.40, both surpassing the metrics laid out in the athletic department's strategic plan.
"It's awesome to see our student-athletes excel in the classroom," said Andrea Greve Coello, UNI's Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development. "Our student-athletes once again showed their ability to achieve in the classroom while balancing the challenges of competing in their respective sports. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and commitment!"
UNI's volleyball team led all Panther programs with the highest semester GPA with a 3.83 average, their third consecutive semester notching a 3.80 or higher.The men's basketball program meanwhile recorded the highest men's semester GPA (3.48), while men's golf notched the largest improved semester GPA from fall 2024 to fall 2025 with a 3.15 average.
Individually, 353 of UNI's 436 student-athletes (81%) registered a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher last fall, with 54% coming in at 3.50 or higher. Cumulatively, 81% of Panthers maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better, with 50% of the department over 3.50.
