CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ---Â The UNI cross country team will continue its season with its second meet of the year on Friday morning, running at the Redbird Invite.
Competition will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the men's eight-kilometer race, followed by the women's six-kilometer race at 9:45 a.m.CT. Joining the Panthers on the D.A. Weibring Golf Course will be Southeast Missouri State, Chicago State, Wartburg, Western Illinois, Illinois Wesleyan and host Illinois State.
The Panther women will look to build off their second place finish at the Cyclone Preview two weeks ago in a meet that saw four career-best 5K finishes. Amelia Hill finished ninth in the five kilometer race with a time of 17:35, the seventh fastest mark in program history. Leah Klapatauskas placed tenth with a career-best time of 17:45, followed by an 11th place finish from Meghan Wheatley with a time of 17:45.Â
On the men's side, Colin Lillie led the pack in the 6K with a 14th place showing with a career-best time of 18:33. Micah Rees placed 16th with a career best time of 18:38. Rees will look to break his eight-kilometer record in Normal, which was broken in the 2024 Redbird Invite posting a career-best time of 25:33. Freshman Ethan Olds will look to build off his 20th place finish (18:58) in Ames in what will be his first collegiate eight-kilometer race.Â
UNI finished with an impressive second-place showing as a team at the 2024 Redbird Invite, while the men took third one year ago in Normal.
