
UNI celebrates Student-Athletes of the Month for April 2025

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI Athletics is proud to honor four outstanding student-athletes with Athlete of the Month awards for April 2025. The award recipients, voted on by members of UNI's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for their achievements in the month of March, include Tytan Anderson (men's basketball), Carter Morton (track & field), Ryley Goebel (women's basketball) and Katy Stephens (track & field).
TYTAN ANDERSON
A Eldridge, Iowa native, Anderson wrapped his collegiate basketball career by shooting 53.6% from the field while averaging 15 points and 4.7 rebounds in the Panthers final three games of the season, which included the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament and the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Anderson was recognized for both his athletic and academic achievements in March by earning First Team All-MVC, MVC All-Defensive Team, MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team and CSC Academic All-District honors to end the season. He was also named a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award, given to a Division I men's basketball player that best represents the heart and soul of his team. Anderson finished his career second in games played in program history (139), seventh in rebounds (800) and seventh in steals (149).
CARTER MORTON
A redshirt senior from Jefferson, Iowa, Morton put on a show to close out the indoor track and field season, winning the high jump, long jump and triple jump at the MVC Indoor Championships, helping the Panthers capture their MVC record 15th indoor team title, earning Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet honors. Qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships, Morton scored a career-high 5,852 points in the heptathlon, second-most in UNI history to place fifth and earn First Team All-American honors, winning both the long jump and high jump events in the multi-event competition.
RYLEY GOEBEL
A Urbana, Iowa product, Goebel averaged 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in the final six games of the Panther women's basketball season, including 16 total blocks and 13 steals, as well as a season-high 21 points at UIC. Notably, she became the first player in MVC history and 19th in NCAA history to record a 70 block-70 steal season. Academically, Goebel was recognized as a CSC Academic All-District and MVC Scholar-Athlete Third Team honoree.
KATY STEPHENS
A junior out of Burlington, Iowa, Stephens earned All-MVC honors at the conference indoor championship meet by winning the pentathlon for a second consecutive year, becoming the first UNI athlete to win the event in back-to-back years at the meet in team history. In addition to her pentathlon title, she also placed fourth in the long jump and eighth in the high jump.
