Hoins, Hanson recognized as MVC Track Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS --- UNI's Emma Hoins and Drake Hanson have been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Track Athletes of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.Â
The selection marks Hoins' first career weekly conference honor, while Hanson earns his second career honor and first of his outdoor career after previously being recognized during the 2023 indoor season.
Hoins, a Waverly, Iowa native made program history for the Panthers last week at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, placing 23rd overall in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a school record time of 10:15.39, breaking her own previous program record. She also ran a career-best time of 4:26.76 in the women's 1,500 meters, the third-fastest time in the event in UNI history. Hoins currently leads the MVC with the fastest time in the steeplechase.
Hanson, a Pleasant Hill, Iowa product, ran two events on the west coast, finishing fourth in the men's 800 meters in 1:47.90, dropping 0.90 seconds off his best time, which ranks second in team history. He also clocked a time of 3:56.94 in the men's open mile competition. Hanson currently ranks first in the conference in the 800-meter run.
Murray State's Diamonasia Taylor was named the MVC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while Indiana State's Wyatt Puff earned men's field honors.
Hoins and Hanson will both return to action beginning Thursday at the 115th running of the historic Drake Relays in Des Moines.Â
