ST. LOUIS — UNI women's basketball claimed a pair of spots on the 2025 MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams as voted on by the league's sports information directors and released by the conference on Tuesday morning. The teams feature 16 athletes across the first, second, and third teams.
This season, Kayba Laube was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team while Ryley Goebel was named to the Third Team. This is both Laube's and Goebel's second appearance on the teams.
On the court, Kayba Laube has played and started in all 31 matchups for the Panthers this season, leading UNI with over 1,000 minutes played this season. Laube has recorded 384 points and 128 rebounds this season. On top of breaking the career record for three-pointers made, Laube set the record for most threes in a game with 10 against Pittsburgh. In the classroom, Laube recorded a 3.89 GPA with majors in Psychology and Biology.
Ryley Goebel has played and started in all 31 of the Panthers' matchups this season and recorded 324 points and 179 rebounds in just over 800 minutes on the court. The junior forward has put on one of the top performances in Panther history and recorded the first 60+-block/60+-steal season in UNI and Valley history. Goebel is two blocks shy of being the first Panther in history to record 150+ blocks AND steals. In the classroom, Goebel has a 3.85 GPA in nursing.
The Panthers continue the 2024-25 season in the MVC Tournament in Evansville, Indiana from March 13-16. The Panthers will take on the Sycamores of Indiana State on Thursday, March 13 at 8:30 p.m.
The criteria for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the College Sports Communicators (CSC) standards for Academic All-America nominations. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and must be enrolled at their institution at the time of nomination either as undergraduates or graduate students. An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and a graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as both an undergraduate and a grad student unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don't have an established graduate GPA. A total of 38 Valley student-athletes met the nomination criteria for scholar-athlete honors in 2025.
