UNI women’s tennis finishes weekend homestand with loss to SIU Edwardsville

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's tennis team closed out its home competition on Sunday, falling to the SIU Edwardsville Cougars by a 4-1 score in a shortened dual.

In singles action, Andjela Raznatovic was the lone Panther to earn a win on the day, defeating Cydney Rodgers by 2-1 with Rodgers retiring in the match. Number one Darta Dalecka fell to Amelia Gorman, 6-2, 6-2, while Lorena Cardoso pushed her match to three sets, but ultimately fell short against Margaux Guibal Britt, 6-3, 6-1, 2-2.

Kim Zizek fought hard in her opening set against Payton Tomichek but could not secure a victory, falling 7-5, 2-2. Kanyanut Sudsaard faced Stefaniya Anikina but lost, 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, Lasya Mylavarapu was defeated by Chloe Koons, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles competition, Sudsaard and Mylavarapu competed in a close match against Tomichek and Koons and were able to secure the victory for the Panthers, winning 7-5. Zizek and Raznatovic battled in a tightly contested match against Guibal Britt and Anikina but narrowly fell, 7-6. Meanwhile, Darta and Cardoso were defeated by Rogers and Gorman, 6-4.
