CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI women's basketball opened the 2025-26 campaign inside the McLeod Center against the North Dakota State Bison. NDSU controlled from tip to final buzzer and took home a 63-49 victory over the Cats.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Panthers opened scoring on a layup from newcomer Jenna Twedt, the Bison jumped out to a quick lead and held a 6-2 advantage early in the contest. A layup by Elise Jaeger sparked the Panther offense who went on a seven-point run to take a 9-6 lead which was capped off by Mya Nicholson with a three-pointer.
An 11-point run from North Dakota State spanned the rest of the first quarter and opening of the second quarter to give the Bison an eight-point lead early in the second frame. The Panther offense struggled to find the bottom of the bucket from the floor, scoring just two points from the floor in the quarter. UNI did find success from the free throw line with 10 points from the charity stripe in the frame. The Bison held a 32-21 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.
Out of the break, the Panther defense held the Bison to just 10 points in the third quarter to go along with 15 from the offense to cut the NDSU lead to just six points with 10 minutes to play. The Bison came out hot in the final frame with a 21-13 fourth quarter to seal the 63-49 victory.
In her Panther debut, Jenna Twedt led the offense with 14 points. She added four rebounds to her total. Taryn Wharton was the other lone Panther in double figures with 10 points. Elise Jaeger led the Panther rebounding effort with eight rebounds as she added eight points on a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor with four free throws.
