UNI women's tennis falls in season opener vs. NIU

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's tennis team opened its spring season with a hard-fought match against Northern Illinois University (NIU) on Saturday morning. Despite determined efforts, the Panthers could not secure victories in either doubles or singles.
In doubles play, Senior duo Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso fell in their opening match to Miroslavova and Dzemeshkevish (NIU) 4-2, their match was cut short and left incomplete after NIU clinched the team doubles point. Meanwhile, the Abbie Peterson/Sreelasya Mylavarapu pairings and Kanyanut Sudsard/Kim Zizek also faced tough opponents, dropping their matches 6-1 and 6-0.
The Panthers continued to battle in singles competition but were unable to overcome the Huskies' lineup. Cardoso and Zizek faced challenging matches, while Sudsaard and Mylavarapu were unable to gain momentum against their opponents, leaving the Panthers with a 0-7 record to start their spring season.
Up next, the Panthers head to Eastern Illinois on Sunday, January 26 before returning home to host a trio of matches at Black Hawk Tennis Club, in Waterloo.
