CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team is set to compete in its first tournament of the 2024-25 season at the Gopher Invitational, taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from Sept. 20-22. With an anticipated field of 12 teams and over 100 athletes competing, the Panthers will look to start strong in the tenth year of the Chris Sagers era on the court.
The Panthers return a sizable core of experienced players, including three seniors and two juniors, led by senior Darta Dalecka, who led the Panthers last season with a 14-17 singles record. Other key returners include Lorena Cardoso (4-18 singles) and Kim Zizek (4-17 singles). Notably, Dalecka and Zizek showcased their talents with first-round singles wins at last year's Gopher Invitational.
Juniors Kanyanut Sudsaard (4-20 singles) and Lasya Mylavarapu (1-14 singles) also return for the purple and gold. Northern Iowa also welcomes two newcomers to the team in freshmen Abbie Peterson and Andjela Raznatovic.
Looking ahead, the Panthers will also compete in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Individual Championships in Chicago, Oct. 4-6 and again Oct. 9-14 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee.
