The UNI women’s basketball team was named sixth in the nation on the WBCA Academic Top-25 after recording the highest team GPA in the Tanya Warren era.
ATLANTA — The UNI women's basketball team tied for the sixth highest team grade-point average (GPA) among Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) members during the 2023-24 season, as announced by the WBCA on Wednesday.
The WBCA Academic Top-25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2023-24 season is the 29th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
The 2023-24 season saw the Panther post the highest team GPA in the Tanya Warren era with a 3.780 cumulative GPA. That GPA was ranked sixth in the nation in a tie with Green Bay. This is the second straight year the Panthers have been in the top 10 after being ranked eighth last season with a 3.714.
"The consistency in which these young women win in the classroom, on the court, and in the community is truly remarkable," said Warren. "I am extremely proud of this team."
The Panthers have been named to the WBCA's Academic Top-25 Honor Roll 19 times since 2001, and 13 times under Warren. UNI has cracked the list's top ten 13 times, including 10 times since 2008.
UNI was one of three Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) schools to be named in the top-25 including Belmont (fifth) with a 3.803 GPA and Drake (ninth) with a 3.736 GPA. Five additional MVC programs earned special mentions for their academic success including Bradley, Valparaiso, Illinois State, Southern Illinois, and UIC.
