GREENWOOD, Ind. --- Five members of the UNI wrestling team and four from the Panther women's golf program received academic recognition on Tuesday as College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its Academic All-District selections for at-large sports.
UNI wrestlers Trever Anderson, Julian Farber, Tyrell Gordon, Ryder Downey and Wyatt Voelker, along with women's golfers Victoria Hualde, Anna Jensen, Anna Nacos and Allison Nuss all received recognition for their combined academic and athletic achievements during the past school year. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Additionally, both Downey and Voelker were selected to the CSC's Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted on over the next week. Academic All-American selections will be announced on July 17.
CSC sponsors academic recognition for soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming & diving, tennis, baseball, softball and track & field/cross country. At-large honors are awarded to student-athletes competing in wrestling, golf, lacrosse, rowing, gymnastics, and numerous other NCAA-sponsored sports.
Hualde, Jensen, Nacos and Nuss all played a key effort in the UNI women's golf team finishing fourth at April's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships in Waterloo, Illinois. In wrestling, Downey secured a Big 12 Conference individual championship at 157 pounds, joining Farber and Voelker as one of seven Panthers to qualify for the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Kansas City, Missouri.
