Panther tennis comes up short in senior day dual against Belmont

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI tennis snagged the team doubles point early and challenged Belmont in singles in three, three-set matches on Saturday, but ultimately came up short in their final dual of the season at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in a 6-1 loss to the Bruins.
Prior to the start of the meet, Northern Iowa celebrated its two graduating seniors in Andrijana Brkic and Issa Sullivan.
Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso opened the meet with a 6-3 doubles victory over Mariia Hlahola and Anastasiya Zholdakova, while Brkic and Kanyanut Sudsaard snagged a 6-4 win against Vesa Gjinaj and Viktoria Kliimand, UNI's first team doubles point in a dual since March 2 at Gustavus Adolphus.
Three Panthers would push their opponents to three sets in singles play. After dropping the opening set, Cardoso would rebound for a 6-4 win against Zholdakova, but ultimately fell in three frames (6-1, 4-6, 6-1). Dalecka took the opening frame from Gjinaj by a narrow 7-6 margin, but would drop the next two sets and the match (6-7, 6-4, 6-4). In her final collegiate singles match, Sullivan would bounce back after a tough first set loss to force a third set tiebreak, but would fall short in a 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 loss.
