CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — Coming off a stellar freshman season, UNI diver Trista Thompson will compete in the NCAA Diving Zones on Monday in Houston. Live results can be online through Dive Meets with a live stream also available.
Thompson, a Grinnell, Iowa native, will compete in the one-meter springboard competition set to begin at 11:45 a.m. CT in a field of 79 qualified athletes after reaching the qualifying score of 265 points in December with a 267.80 score in a first-place performance at the Panther Diving Invite.
Throughout the season, Thompson has anchored UNI on the boards, cracking UNI's all-time top-ten list in the event in her first collegiate season. Thompson took home third-place in the one-meter boards in the season opener at Iowa and placed fourth at the Coyote Extravaganza (237.10) and 11th at the Hawkeye Diving Invite (249.30). Against Iowa State, she scored a 258.15 to place fifth overall, and ended the regular season by clinching second-place against Illinois State, with a 256.28.
At the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships, Thompson scored a 254.30 in the preliminary rounds to qualify for the A-final. In the finals, she notched a sixth place finish with a 247.90. Thompson was also recognized as the MVC Freshman Diver of the Year for her performance.
