
Trista Thompson rounds out diving season at NCAA Zones

HOUSTON, Tex. --- UNI freshman diver Trista Thompson wrapped up her first collegiate season on the boards on Monday, placing 46th overall with a final score of 206.55.
Thompson climbed as high as 33rd in standings during the competition after a score of 40.80 during her fifth of six dives on an inward 1 ½ somersault pike. She also notched a 36.40 in her fourth dive on a reverse 1 ½ somersault 1 ½ twist free.

Thompson, a Grinnell, Iowa native, qualified for the NCAA Zones after achieving the qualifying score of 265 points in December with a 267.80 score in a first-place performance at the Panther Diving Invite.
Throughout the season, Thompson anchored UNI on the boards, cracking UNI's all-time top-ten list in the event in her first collegiate season. Thompson took home third-place in the one-meter boards in the season opener at Iowa and placed fourth at the Coyote Extravaganza (237.10) and 11th at the Hawkeye Diving Invite (249.30). Against Iowa State, she scored a 258.15 to place fifth overall, and ended the regular season by clinching second-place against Illinois State, with a 256.28.Â
At the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships, Thompson scored a 254.30 in the preliminary rounds to qualify for the A-final. In the finals, she notched a sixth place finish with a 247.90. Thompson was also recognized as the MVC Freshman Diver of the Year for her performance.
