Panthers swim & dive comes up big at Huskies (Coyotes) Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. – UNI swimming and diving picked up 11 first-place finishes over the weekend as it took on the likes of St. Cloud State, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Sioux Falls at the Huskies (Coyotes) Invite on Friday and Saturday.
Competition kicked off for the Panthers on Friday afternoon with the 400-yard medley relay team of Elyse Brayton, Sydney Aird, Hannah Nedder and Morgan Meyer taking first place (3:53.27). Hallory Domnick followed with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.01), while Northern Iowa swept the podium in the 50-yard freestyle, led by Faith Larsen in first (23.41), Abby Lear in second (24.16) and Meyer in third (24.23).
Olivia Chambers, making her season-debut following her Paralympic gold medal performance this summer, took home the top prize in the 400-yard individual medley (4:34.77), with Nikki Walters following close behind in second (4:36.89). Larsen took first in the 100-yard butterfly (56.61) as Hannah Nedder followed right behind in second (56.94). Meyer found herself at the top of the results sheet in the 100-yard freestyle (51.87), while Abby Lear followed shortly behind in third (52.94).
Brayton picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (58.58), while Domnick put on a strong showing for third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.90). The combo of Lear, Meyer, Nedder and Larsen finished off the opening night of action winning the 200-yard free relay title (1:34.16).
The Panthers started off Saturday's competition with the 200-yard medley relay team of Brayton, Aird, Nedder and Larsen taking first place (1:47.06), as Meyer and Domnick finished first and second respectively in the 200-yard freestyle. Larsen once again showed off her sprinting speed with another 50-yard freestyle win (23.75) as Lear claimed third place (24.29).
Walters showed grit and took third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.13), while Meyer claimed her third victory of the weekend in the 100-yard freestyle (52.23) with Larsen in second (52.44). Brayton took first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.48) as the relay team of Meyer, Lear, Domnick and Larsen closed out competition with a top finish in the 400-yard free relay (3.29.00).
Over in the diving well, Erica Peters took second place in the three-meter diving with a score of 239.05, while Maddie Moran followed in third at 234.10, her highest collegiate finish on the boards. Hannah Taylor finished in fifth for the Panthers in the three-meter respectively with a score of 225.55.
In the one-meter diving competition, the Panthers saw another podium sweep as Peters, Trista Thompson and Moran captured the top-three places with scores of 249.45, 248.25 and 222.75 respectively.
