UNI tennis rounds out weekend in Chicago at MVC Individual Championships

CHICAGO — The UNI tennis team competed in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Individual Championships over the weekend, facing a tough slate of competitors from all eight opposing league opponents across six singles and three doubles flights.
In singles play, Lorena Cardoso opened with a 6-0, 7-5 loss to Naomi Lalonde (Valparaiso) before dropping her second match to Lana Caculovic (Illinois State) 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in the first flight of competitors. In flight two, Kim Zizek lost 7-6, 6-4 to Kirstin Hailey (Bradley) and Nicole Lee (Drake) 6-2, 0-6, 10-7, while Andjela Raznatovic competed in flight three, dropping her matches to Yu Kikawa (Murray State) 6-4, 6-4 and Mariia Pukhina (Bradley) 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Kanyanut Sudsaard played in flight four, facing Nicole Losio (Illinois State), Losing 6-0, 6-1 and later Brynn Steven (Valparaiso) 7-5, 6-3. In flight five, Abbie Peterson finished sixth after close matches including a loss to Anais Brion (UIC) by a score of 7-5, 6-2 and three-set loss to Lacey Tanner (Valparaiso), 7-5, 2-6, 10-4. Lasya Mylavarapu competed in flight six but retired in her second match against Zoe Limparis (Illinois State) and later fell to Madi Rogers (Bradley) by injury default.
Zizek and Raznatovic competed in flight one in doubles for the Panthers, dropping an 8-4 match to Laurea Koralnik and Jessica Popisol (Drake). In flight two, Maylavarapu and Cardoso lost to Nia Cooper and Camille Belberka (UIC) 8-4. Sudsaard and Peterson fell in flight three to Elena Jankulovska and Nuria Sanz (Illinois State), 8-2.
