UNI sophomore set to make second appearance with Team USA this November in Chile.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- UNI sophomore swimmer Cali Prochaska has been named to the U.S. roster for the 2023 Parapan American Games, as announced by U.S. Paralympics Swimming on Tuesday night.
Prochaska, a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana with proximal femoral focal disorder in her left leg and hip, was one of 33 swimmers named to this year's team, who will compete at the quadrennial event for North, South and Central American nations in Santiago, Chile from Nov. 18-24. Events are yet to be determined.
"We are very optimistic about this team and excited to see many of our younger athletes getting to represent Team USA for the first time," said Erin Popovich, Director of U.S. Paralympics Swimming. "They will be looking to the athletes who have been on this stage before, and I have no doubt the experience that group brings will be extremely helpful as many of our newer athletes make their debuts."
The 2023 games in Santiago will be Prochaska's second as a para swimmer, having placed fourth in the 100-meter butterfly as an S9 classified swimmer at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru. She has also competed in multiple U.S. Paralympic Swimming National Championships during her young career.
Prochaska is slated to make her UNI debut this season with the Panthers while also competing on the para swimming circuit. She began competitive swimming in 2013 after initially using aquatics as physical therapy in 2008 following Van Ness Rotationplasty surgery. Prochaska is the daughter of Brian and Melissa Prochaska, and sister of Tanner, Connor, Jana, Fath and Lauren.
