UNI Athletic Director to begin one-year term effective Aug. 1 overseeing development and oversight of regular season and postseason competition.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- UNI Director of Athletics David Harris has been named the chair of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee, as announced by the NCAA this week.
Harris, who has led the UNI Athletic Department since 2016 and served as Vice Chair of the committee for the last year, succeeds Grand Canyon University Athletic Director Jamie Boggs. His term as committee chair will officially begin on Aug. 1, 2023 and run through June 2024.
"I am deeply humbled to be selected as the chair of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee for this term," Harris said. "We have seen the growth and interest of women's college basketball reach new heights in the last few years, and as a committee it is important that we continue to foster that growth with our work. I thank my predecessor Jamie Boggs for her fantastic leadership in the past year and look forward to leading this committee and for the opportunity to help continue to grow the sport of women's basketball at the collegiate level."
The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee is responsible for ensuring that appropriate oversight of NCAA Division I women's basketball is maintained, for enhancing the development and public perception of the sport and for making recommendations related to regular season and postseason competition such as rule changes and administration of the championship tournament. The committee also prioritizes the enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience from both an academic and athletic perspective, and in doing so, promotes student-athletes' personal growth and leadership development.
Since 2019, in addition to his service on the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee, Harris has also been a member of the 40-person NCAA Division I Council, a key decision making group made up of athletic directors, athletic administrators, senior women's administrators, faculty athletic representatives and student-athletes.
