UNI tennis drops duals to Bruins, Racers down south

Panthers return home to face Drake next Saturday in regular season finale.
MURRAY, Kent. --- UNI tennis dropped its final two road duals of the season over the weekend as the Panthers fell to Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) newcomers Belmont in a 7-0 shutout on Friday, and to Murray State by a score to 5-2 on Saturday in Kentucky.
Thaissa Moreira and Issa Sullivan picked up UNI's lone win in its dual against the Bruins, shutting out Taylor Trondson and Meredith Robert in the No. 3 doubles match. The victory marked the duo's fourth straight win together and their team-best eighth victory of the season playing together. Lorena Cardoso and Darta Dalecka would come up short in their doubles match, as did Andrijana Brkic and Kim Zizek, in identical 6-3 losses.
Belmont would sweep all 6 singles matches from the Panthers with Dalecka battling Abi Solomon in a 6-4, 6-2 loss in the No. 2 singles slot. Brkic would fall to Mariia Hlahola, 6-3, 6-1, while Cardoso dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Anastasiya Zholdakova.
UNI was able to respond with some success on Saturday in singles as Kanyanut Sudsaard and Moreira secured the Panthers' two points against the Racers. After holding off Paola Campigotto in a narrow 7-6 first set, Moreira notched a 6-3 second set win for her ninth singles victory of the season. Sudsaard earned her third singles win of the year in impressive fashion, sweeping Megan Null in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
All three of UNI's doubles pairings would struggle against Murray State, with Cardoso and Dalecka falling to Natalie Slezakova and Emma Honore, 6-3. Brkic and Zizek fell to Sarah Bureau and Annika Pschorr, 6-3, while Moreira and Sullivan were defeated by Campigotto and Marit Kreugel, 6-2.

UNI returns home next Saturday afternoon for their final MVC dual of the regular season, hosting in-state rival Drake at 1 p.m. CT at the UNI Tennis Courts.
