UNI softball at Indiana State
UNI will make its way to Indiana to take on the 18-17 Indiana State Sycamores on their home turf. Last season the Panthers picked up two wins over Indiana State at Robinson-Dresser in a doubleheader after the first game of the weekend was canceled due to weather. UNI outscored the Sycamores 13-7 and will look to have more success in Terre Haute over the weekend.
THE PANTHERS:
- UNI continues to dominate the early portion of the Missouri Valley Conference schedule with three big wins against the Bradley Braves over the weekend. After a tough 4-1 loss to RV Missouri to begin their seventh week of play, the Panthers' offense exploded in their first home series at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex. UNI outscored the Braves 32-4, including two shutouts and a big comeback win in extra innings
- After struggling to score in the first six innings to start their Sunday doubleheader against Bradley, the Panthers put up four runs and three hits in the bottom of the seventh to force the game into an extra inning. UNI headed into the bottom of the eighth with one thing in mind, a walk-off win. And walk off they did as second baseman Taylor Hogan connected on a home run deep into left field after two outs. Hogan's second homer of the year gave UNI the 5-4 win in extra innings against Bradley to set off an offensive firestorm in the second game of 18 runs on 13 hits.
- Two UNI players earned MVC weekly honors after a third week of MVC wins. Pitcher Samantha Heyer picked up her fourth Pitcher of the Week honor while Mya Dodge earned her first Player of the Week honor.Â
- The Panthers keep climbing the national statistical rankings with nine straight Valley wins under their belt. UNI is top 30 in the nation in fielding percentage (25), doubles per game (T-13), home runs (30), scoring (20), and strikeout-to-walk ratio (13).Â
THE SYCAMORES:
- Indiana State walked off Evansville on Tuesday evening by having a ninth-inning home run from Isabella Henning to left field to lift the Sycamores past the Aces, 3-2. The midweek win put Indiana State's record back into positive territory at above .500.Â
- The Sycamores' win over Purdue on March 21 was ISU's first win over the Boilermakers since 2018 and the second Power Five win of the year as Indiana State took down ACC foe Pittsburgh 3-0 on March 12.
- Indiana State first baseman Isabella Henning enters the weekend with a conference-best .420 batting average with 42 hits on the season. Henning recently recorded her 81st career RBI which put her in ninth place all-time in Sycamore program history.Â
- The Sycamore pitching staff is led by senior LexiBenko who has a 2.10 ERA in 86.2 innings this season. She has struck out 63 hitters and thrown four complete games with 18 appearances this season.
