CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI tennis begins its final road trip of the regular season beginning Friday afternoon as the Panthers face off against two of the three newcomers to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) in Belmont and Murray State.
The Panthers will meet both the Bruins and Racers for just the second time in their history over the weekend. UNI narrowly edged Belmont a decade ago in a 4-3 win in Nashville, and shutout Murray State 7-0 back in March of 2012.
UNI hits the road after splitting its two home duals last weekend in a 4-3 win against Valparaiso, and a 4-3 loss to Missouri State. Thaissa Moreira led the Panthers with a pair of victories in the No. 5 singles slot, and picked up two wins in No. 3 doubles with her partner, Issa Sullivan. Moreira and Sullivan are a team-best 7-4 as a doubles duo, having won their last 3 matches together.
Andrijana Brkic continues to anchor the purple and gold in singles with a team-high 24 wins, the most by a Panther since Meredith Esbeck in 2004-05. Darta Dalecka also notched her 10th singles victory of the season last weekend with a pair of victories in the No. 2 position.
Belmont has won its last 4 duals as it prepares for its final weekend at home with a 6-10 record, narrowly slipping past UIC on Sunday in a 4-3 win. Mariia Hlahola leads the Bruins with a 17-8 record in singles, while both Abi Solomon and Anastasiya Zholdakova have each won 10 matches this season.
Murray State will return home after visiting Missouri State on Thursday afternoon, looking to snap a two-match skid. At 8-8 on the season in duals, Emma Honore leads the Racers with an 8-4 mark in singles, while Annika Pschorr, Natalie Slezakova, Paola Campigotto and Sarah Burerau have each tallied 7 singles victories this year.
