UNI men's golf takes third place at MVC Championships

Panthers tie for best finish at the MVC Championships in program history with top-three finish. Parker finishes in top-ten individually.
COAL VALLEY, Ill. --- UNI men's golf tied for its best finish at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships on Tuesday as the Panthers took home third place following the final round of competition at the Oakwood Country Club. The Panthers previously finished third at the conference tournament twice before in 2001 and 2015.
Illinois State cruised to the team title shooting a team score of 284 on Tuesday, finishing the week with an 836, 13 strokes ahead of second place Valparaiso. Despite a challenging final round, UNI held on to third place by two strokes ahead of Bradley with a final total of 856.
Griffin Parker led the purple and gold in Tuesday's finale right where he left off with a team-best round of 70 (-1) with four birdies on the day, finishing in tenth place to secure his second straight top-ten finish at the MVC Championships.
For the second straight round, Tommy Doyle sank an eagle on the back nine, scoring on the par-5 13th hole to finish with a score of 73 (+2) to tie for 14th place, his best finish at the tournament in his career. JD Pollard finished the tournament battling a set of bogeys on the back nine, but ended the day by carding a 75 (+4) to finish in a tie for 17th place.
Connor Van Weelden scored even par on the front nine and notched a pair of birdies on the 12th and 13th holes to tie with Pollard for 17th at 216 (+3) for the week in his first MVC Championship appearance. Competing in his final collegiate event, Thomas Storbeck scored a 74 (+3) to finish in a tie for 30th.Â
