Panther men's golf surges up team leaderboard in round two of MVC Championships

COAL VALLEY, Ill. --- UNI's JD Pollard shot the best round of his Panther career, while Tommy Doyle scored one of the tournament's seven eagles on Monday as the Panthers surged up the team leaderboard, setting up a tight finish team race heading into Tuesday at Oakwood Country Club and the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships.

Having tied with Southern Illinois after Sunday's first round, UNI posted a team score of 278 on Monday, the second-best score in the field behind only first place Illinois State. Creating some distance between fourth place Bradley (570), the Panthers sit only four strokes behind second place Valparaiso, and individual tournament leader Anthony Delisanti at 130 (-12).

Pollard opened the second round with a pair of birdies on the fifth and sixth holes, and went back-to-back with birdie scores on holes 15 and 16, finishing the afternoon with a score of 69 (-2) and in a tie for 10th place. Doyle meanwhile scored three birdies on the front nine and recovered nicely on hole no. 15 with an eagle shot following a double bogey to end the round with a 69 (-2). Doyle enters Tuesday tied for 13th place.

Griffin Parker also found success with five total birdies on the day, including three on the front nine, dropping his round score by two strokes from yesterday to 70 (-1). Connor Van Weelden ran into a double bogey on the fifth green, but rebounded with a pair of birdies on the back nine, finishing with a 72 (+1) to join Doyle and Parker in a tie for 13th place.

Thomas Storbeck also made significant improvement after a tough first round on Monday, dropping seven strokes from the opening round. After settling for bogey on the first two holes of the day, Storbeck maintained steady par shots for much of the front nine before scoring birdies on four of the final six holes, finishing with a 70 (-1) and in a tie for 29th place.

UNI will return for round three of the MVC Championships on Tuesday morning scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m. CT. Individual tee times for the final round are listed below.
