CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI tennis will conclude its 2022-23 season this Saturday afternoon as the Panthers play host to in-state rival Drake in its final dual of Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play.
Scheduled for 1 p.m. CT, UNI's final dual of the year will be played either at the UNI Tennis Courts on campus (weather permitting), or indoors at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo. An announcement on the official venue will be made at a later time.
The Panthers will also celebrate their lone senior in Thaissa Moreira, who will play in her final meet after a four-year career with UNI. Moreira, a native of Vila Velha, Brazil, has compiled 17 singles victories in her career, including a career-high 9 this season. Moreira also enters the weekend with a 21-20 career mark in doubles, which includes an 8-5 record with doubles partner Issa Sullivan this year.
Coming off a pair of road losses at Belmont and Murray State last weekend, UNI looks to finish the season on a high note against a Bulldogs team still in contention for the conference's regular season dual championship and top-seed at next week's MVC Championships in Normal, Illinois. Given UNI's record against MVC opponents, the Panthers will not qualify.
In singles, Andrijana Brkic looks to close a breakout season in search of her 25th win of the year, while Moreira aims to reach double-digit victories for the first time in her career and give the Panthers three athletes with 10+ singles wins on the season. Leading UNI with an 11-18 doubles record, Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso seek a 12th win on the year, as Brkic and Kim Zizek look to finish the season with a win and snap a two-match skid.
