ST. LOUIS --Â Two UNI women's basketball players have been honored for their play on the court and their skill in the classroom.
Sophomore forward Grace Boffeli and senior center Cynthia Wolf were named to Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Teams by league sports information directors this week. This is Boffeli's first time on a Scholar-Athlete team, while Wolf made her first appearance as an honorable mention in the 2021-22 season. Illinois State graduate guard Mary Crompton was named the State Farm Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second season in a row.Â
Boffeli was named to the All-MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team after a phenomenal season as a consistent starter on the court. This is Boffeli's first year eligible for Scholar-Athlete recognition and was honored earlier this season by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) as an Academic All-District member. Boffeli started all 29 games for the Panthers, averaging 16.2 points and 8.9 rebounds a game. Boffeli led the Missouri Valley in double-doubles with 13 such performances and led in rebounds per game at 8.9. In the classroom, Boffeli is majoring in elementary education and has a 3.92 cumulative GPA.Â
Wolf was named to the All-MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team after being honored just a year ago as an honorable mention. Wolf was also named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District member in February. This season, Wolf started all 28 games she appeared in for the Panthers, averaging 4.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists a game. In her final season with UNI, Wolf etched her name into the record book with 145 games played, good for fourth in program history. She was also in the top 15 in the Valley for blocks per game, averaging 0.9.Â
The criteria for the scholar-athlete team ballot parallels the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, have played at least 75 percent of a team's games, and must carry at least a 3.50 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Student-athletes must also have reached sophomore athletic, and academic standing at their institution (true and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
