CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — UNI men's and women's golf begins the final month of the 2022-23 season on Monday morning as the Panthers tee off at the WIU Invite at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Tee times have yet to be announced.
A par 71 course at 6,804 yards, the Panthers will face off against 5 other programs on the course, including host Western Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota, St. Thomas (Minn). and NAIA St. Ambrose.
The Panther men return to the course after finishing in 7th place at the Missouri State Intercollegiate last week thanks to a strong team performance in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Â Griffin Parker has led UNI in each of their first two tournaments this spring, most recently cracking the top-10 in Springfield a week ago, shooting 71 in the first and third round to score 215 (+2).
Connor Van Weelden overcame a difficult first round to shoot for par in the second round, which included a crucial shot for eagle, and one-under par in the final round for a season-best round of 70, sinking 4 birdies to finish in a tie for 26th place.
On the women's side, UNI is slated to take to the greens for the first time since mid-March after a 14th place finish at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tennessee. Anna Nacos led UNI earlier this month in Tennessee, tying for 36th place on the leaderboard after shooting 237 (+21) over the course of 3 rounds. Nacos has averaged a round score of 79.7 this season, second-best on the roster.
Both the UNI men and women will have one final tournament following the WIU Invite, at the Stampede At The Creek in Elkhorn, Nebraska ahead of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships. The Panther women will head to the Anbriar Golf Club in Waterloo, Illinois for their conference tournament, April 16-18. The UNI will host the MVC men's championships, April 23-25 at the Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois.
