CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — UNI men's golf heads into familiar territory starting Monday morning as the Panthers head to southwest Missouri to compete at the Missouri State Intercollegiate.Â
The Panthers tee off a 36-hole shotgun on Monday, followed by an 18-hole shotgun on Tuesday. Tee times have yet to be announced.Â
Playing at the par 71, 6,702-yard Millwood Golf Club, UNI will face off against a number of Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) opponents, including Bradley, Drake and Belmont. Oral Roberts is the defending tournament champion from 2022.
Griffin Parker and Connor Van Weelden led the Panthers in their first competition of the spring season last week at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tennessee, with both tying for 17th place overall with a total score of 221 (+5). Parker shot even par in the opening round of play, while Van Weelden scored a 72 in the final round, tying his season-best round.
The Panthers were led by Griffin Parker and Connor Van Weelden at the Bobby Nichols Invitational late last week. UNI placed 7th overall, while Parker and Van Weelden tied for 17th overall, notching a total 221 (+5) score. Parker finished with a first-round score of 72 (E) on Sunday in UNI's first men's tournament of the spring season, while Van Weelden's third-round score of 72 tied his season-best.Â
Tommy Doyle tied for 51st in Sevierville after carding two rounds of 78 (+6) and a final round score of 72 for a total of 229 (+13). Thomas Storbeck finished in a tie for 64th, shooting 74 (+2), 82 (+10) and 79 (+7) for a total 235 (+19). JD Pollard tied for 67th with a 236 (+20).Â
Nile Petersen competed individually, shooting a 74, 77 (+5), and 79 for a total score of 230 (+14), tying for 55th. Jack Moody and Brandon McCarty both tied for 79th shooting a total score of 246 (+30) as individual competitors.
Storbeck leads the Panthers with a season average score of 74.2 in 20 rounds played this year, along with 2 rounds of 60.Â
