
UNI swim & dive: Finke, Hogan, Larsen, Lovig named CSC Academic All-District

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA) announced its 2022-23 Academic All-District Teams for swimming and diving on Tuesday, including the recognition of four UNI athletes for their academic success. The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Swimmers Amber Finke, Faith Larsen and Kassidy Lovig, plus diver Taylor Hogan were selected to this year's All-District Team.
Nomination criteria include holding a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better, being a sophomore standing or higher both academically and athletically and playing a key role in the lineup with participation in at least half of all scheduled team competitions. All persons that garner Academic All-District recognition are eligible for Academic All-America honors.
College Sports Communicators' All-America program recognizes basketball honorees across four divisions --- NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
Finke, a junior studying biology with an emphasis in pre-professional physical therapy, earned Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete and First Team All-MVC honors this season after earning a pair of top-three individual finishes at the MVC Championships last month. The Carol Stream, Illinois native took second place in the 200-yard backstroke and third place in the 100-yard backstroke, while also breaking UNI's 200-yard freestyle record during the opening leg of the Panthers' 800-yard freestyle relay.
Hogan, a senior two-sport athlete (softball) majoring in communication sciences and disorders with a minor in biology, finished in 11th place in the one-meter springboard competition at the MVC Championships with a score of 236.43. She also took 10th in the three-meter competition, scoring a 238.32. Hogan, who also earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors this season, will compete at the NCAA Diving Zone in Minneapolis, March 7-9.
Sprinter Faith Larsen, a sophomore political science major, picked up the lone victory for UNI at the MVC Championships, taking first place in the 50-yard freestyle in school record time (22.50). Larsen also took home third place individually in the 100-yard freestyle (50.26), recording the third fastest time in program history.
Lovig, a senior hailing from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, wrapped up her collegiate career this winter swimming in 6 races at the MVC Championships. The distance/individual medley specialist also picked up her fourth MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selection this season.
College Sports Communicators' Academic All-America selections will be voted on and announced in mid-March.
