UNI women's basketball vs. Bradley
In their first meeting of the year in Peoria, UNI pulled away from Bradley in the second half for an 83-64 win at Renaissance Coliseum. The Panthers will try to get their second sweep of the Braves in two seasons on Saturday afternoon.Â
THE PANTHERS:
- UNI came close but didn't find its third last-second shot in a month against Illinois State on Thursday night. The Panthers were neck-in-neck with the Redbirds through the second half. But a last-minute shooting foul committed by UNI ended the offensive night for the Panthers in their 72-70 loss.Â
- The Panthers helped raise money for Stand Up to Cancer during their Pink Out game on Thursday evening. Head Coach Tanya Warren is donating $25 for the eight three-pointers UNI made against the Redbirds. Fans are encouraged to match Coach Warren's donation at the Panthers Gofundme link.Â
- Sophomore forward Grace Boffeli continues to expand her game across the floor this season. Along with picking up her 10th double-double, Boffeli tied a career-high in three-pointers against Illinois State. This season alone, Boffeli has put up multiple treys in three games along with several 20+ point performances.Â
- Head Coach Tanya Warren picked up two milestones while at Valparaiso last weekend. Warren coached her 507th game behind the Panther bench, setting a new MVC record for most games coached. The record was previously held by former Southern Illinois Head Coach Cindy Scott. Coach Warren also picked up her 300th career win in the Panthers victory over the Beacons.
THE BRAVES:
- Bradley comes into Saturday's game at the bottom of the MVC standings. The Braves haven't found a win during Valley play yet this season despite close games against Indiana State and Valparaiso at home and on the road.
- The Braves three wins of the year came in the non-conference season against McNeese State, Missouri Baptist, and Eastern Illinois. Bradley also had one close overtime loss game during non-conference against Kansas City at home.Â
- Bradley is coming off a 49-81 loss against Drake on February 16. The Braves played from behind most of the game, with Drake quickly gaining a double-digit lead in the first quarter. Bradley grabbed 30 rebounds, handed out seven assists, and snagged four steals in the loss.
- The Braves are led by sophomore guard Caroline Waite averaging 12.6 points per game and shooting 90.5% from the free throw line. Guard Alex Rouse follows closely behind Waite, averaging 11.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.
