
Panther cross country faces test at NCAA Midwest Regional

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa— UNI cross country heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma to compete at the 2023 NCAA Midwest Regional this Friday. Competition is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT at Oklahoma State University (OSU) Cross Country Course. The women will be running a 6K race and the men will be competing in a 10K race.
Competing at the MVC Championships two weeks ago the Panther women took eighth place with a total of 181 points, as the men's team finished in tenth place on the course with 240 points.Â
On the women's side, Emma Hoins led the pack finishing in 14th place with a career-best time of 21:39 in the 6K. Kate Crawford crossed the finish line in 26th place with a season-best time of 22:07 for UNI, as Eden Mueller ran a career-best time (22:27) clocking in at 41st place.Â
Returners Ella Popenhagen (22:42) and Sophia Jungling (22:52) finished in 47th and 54th place for the Panthers, while freshman runners Kaylee Woolery (23:03), Kayla Young (23:17) and Brooke O'Brien (23:35) finished in 64th, 69th and 78th place.Â
Caleb Shumaker clocked a time of 25:37 in the men's 8K to finish in 28th place, while Brady Griebel came in 50th place in a time of 26:14. Tyler Colvin finished in a time of 26:22 to complete the 8K in 57th place.Â
Freshman Carson Owens (26:23), Colin Lillie (27:17), Josh Gormley (27:27) and Caleb Kass (27:31) finished in 59th, 68th, 72nd and 74th on the course for the Panthers.
