CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI swimming and diving will officially begin its 2023-24 campaign this Friday, October 6 at 5 p.m. as the Panthers dual the Iowa Hawkeyes at the Campus Recreation-Wellness Center in Iowa City.
This will be the first time the Panthers compete in Iowa City for a dual meet since the 2021-22 season, when UNI took home their first dual win against Iowa by a score of 159-133. Competition is slated to begin at 5 p.m. CT. Live results will be available on the Meet Mobile app, while the meet can also be live streamed via BTN+ with a subscription.
In the 2022-23 season, UNI won a program-record 12 duals meets and placed fourth overall at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships. Head coach Nick Lakin enters his seventh season with the Panthers after recording a school-record 55th dual victory last season.
Last Saturday, UNI hosted its annual Purple & Gold intrasquad meet in preparation for Friday's season opener. In a narrow competition, the Gold Team edged out the purple team in a 127-123 final.Â
Twenty-two swimmers return for the Panthers this season, including reigning MVC 50-yard freestyle champion Faith Larsen, who became the first UNI swimmer to rank in the Division I top-100 in any event in program history. Also returning this season is distance swimmer Olivia Chambers, who won six medals at the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester, England this summer. Chambers holds three top-ten spots for UNI's program, including the 500, 1,000 and the 1,650-yard freestyle races.Â
UNI has also added seven new faces to the roster this season, including new diver Avery Hogan. Hogan, a three-time state qualifier and the 2021 IGHSAU state champion, is the sister of Taylor Hogan, the 2022 MVC Diver of the Year.Â
