CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI swimming and diving jumps into its final pair of dual meets of the season this Saturday as the Panthers visit Ames to face off against the Iowa State Cyclones and the West Virginia Mountaineers. Competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT at the Beyer Hall Pool on the Iowa State campus, with live results available via the Meet Mobile app and Dive Meets.
The Panthers matchup with the Cyclones for the eighth consecutive year in dual competition and against the Mountaineers for the first time in school history. UNI's 12 dual victories this year are tied for most in a single season in program history.
The Panthers won 9 of 19 events in their previous outing last weekend in a 198-155 dual win over the Illinois State Redbirds at home. Scout Bergwall and Hallory Domnick each swept a pair of events with Bergwall clinching the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events, as Domnick won the 500-yard freestyle, plus the 1,000-yard freestyle with a new personal best time. Olivia Chambers took home first place in the 400-yard individual medley, while Amber Finke clinched first in the 200-yard backstroke.
UNI also won 3 of the 4 contested relays against Illinois State, with the team of Fine, Sydney Aird, Bergwall and Faith Larsen sweeping both the 200 and 400-yard medley relays. Larsen, Finke, Abby Lear and Clare Christensen also won the 200-freestyle relay.
In the diving well, Taylor Hogan led the Panthers with a pair of second place finishes, including a season-best score of 262.73 on the one-meter springboard. Erica Peters took third in the three-meter competition with a score of 246.68, and fourth on the one-meter board with a 229.20.
UNI will have one final set of competitions following its trip to Ames this weekend before hosting the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships in Iowa City, February 15-18. Panther divers will head to Nebraska for the Omaha Diving Invite, while swimmers will travel to South Dakota for the Coyote Invite in Sioux Falls. Both competitions will be held February 3-4.
