UNI wrestling heads west to battle Utah Valley

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI wrestlers Kyle Biscoglia and Parker Keckeisen have the chance to notch their 60th career wins against Utah Valley this week.

Biscoglia (133 pounds) and Keckeisen (184 pounds) both have 59 career wins. They are just behind Austin Yant (165 pounds), who leads UNI with 61 career wins.

Yant is undefeated and on a 12-match win streak. He and Keckeisen remain undefeated in duals. Biscoglia and Derek Holschlag (157 pounds) join the duo in being undefeated in Big 12 duals.

The Panthers will be on the road to face their third Big 12 team of the season. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. CT Jan. 13. Fans will be able to follow the action on YouTube.

No. 15 UNI PANTHERS (3-2 / 1-1 Big 12)

UNI leads the series with Utah Valley, 4-1. Doug Schwab is coming off his 100th dual victory as head coach for UNI and is undefeated against the Wolverines at 4-0. The Panthers slipped slightly in this week's rankings from No. 13 to No. 15.

Cael Happel is expected to return to the lineup at 141 pounds after sitting out against Missouri. He bumped up slightly in the rankings. Austin Yant also moved up in Intermat's latest rankings.

UTAH VALLEY WOLVERINES (1-3 / 1-0 Big 12)

The Wolverines finished last in the 2022 Big 12 at the conference championships, but they already have one win in the league. UVU opened the dual season with a 29-9 win over Cal Baptist.

Romero is a returning All-American who took off last year to redshirt.

Drury, who isn't expected to compete, started his collegiate career at Fresno State in the 2021 season. He earned a spot at the 2022 NCAAs with a fifth-place finish at the Big 12 Championships. He is the 2022 U20 Greco-Roman Pan-Am champ.

Mauger posted a 17-5 record in 2022 as a redshirt.

133 | #12/15 Kyle Biscoglia (13-4, 3-2, 2-0) vs. vs. Kobe Nelms (4-9, 0-3, 0-0) or Stockton O'Brien (4-2, 0-0, 0-0)
Nelms is an NAIA transfer. He was 15-8 overall last year at Utah Valley with no dual action. O'Brien competed at the Big 12 Championships in 2021 true freshman during the COVID-19 year, going 0-2. He redshirted last season, posting a 9-4 record.

141 | #8/7 Cael Happel (11-2, 3-1, 1-0) vs. Ty Smith (3-3, 1-2, 0-0) or James Emmer (8-4, 0-0, 0-0)
Smith was a 2021 NCAA qualifier. He was eighth at the 2022 Big 12 Championships. He had three wins over ranked wrestlers last year, including a decision over No. 5 Allan Hart of Missouri. Emmer went 1-3 last year competing in all duals.

149 | #12/14 Colin Realbuto (11-4, 4-11-1) vs. Isaiah Delgado (12-6, 3-1, 1-0) or Tyson Humpherys (8-4, 0-1, 0-0)
Delgado, a redshirt junior, started as a true freshman for Utah Valley and took last year to redshirt. He was sidelined midseason in 2021 with an injury. He's moved up a weight to compete at 149 pounds. Humpherys redshirted last year and went 11-6 overall.

157 | #25/HM Derek Holschlag (10-3, 4-1, 2-0) vs. Alex Emmer (2-1, 2-1, 0-0)
Emmer opened his freshman season in 2022 at 149 pounds before an injury ended his season in December. He was 4-5 overall and 3-2 duals in 2022.

165 | #9/15 Austin Yant (12-0, 5-0, 2-0) vs. Danny Snediker (5-7, 1-3, 1-0) or Cameron Haddock (4-4, 0-0, 0-0)
REMATCH: Yant beat Snediker in the first round of the 2022 Big 12 Championships, 4-1.

Snediker was seventh at the 2021 Big 12 Championships and stepped up to fill in for an injured Demetrius Romero, ending his plans of a redshirt in 2022. He was 7-7 overall and 2-3 in duals in 2022. Haddock redshirted last year, posting a 3-0 record.

174 | #13/12 Lance Runyon (1-1, 1-1, 0-0) or Carson Babcock (6-12, 0-3, 0-2) vs. (7/11) Demetrius Romero (7-1, 3-1, 1-0)
Two-time Big 12 champ and 2021 All-American Romero returns after a year off due to injury. He is Utah Valley's only Big 12 champion in program history.

Morse bounced between 174 pounds and 184 pounds last year. He was 13-7 overall and 2-2 in duals in 2022. Uhlenhopp is a true freshman.

197 | Noah Glaser (6-6, 2-3, 1-1) vs. #24/23 Evan Bockman (15-4, 4-0, 1-0) or Jack Forbes (5-4, 0-0, 0-0)
Bockman is a returning NCAA qualifier. He was seventh at the 2022 Big 12 Championships. Forbes went 10-4 as a redshirt in the 2022 season.

285 | #14/13 Tyrell Gordon (11-5, 3-2, 1-1) vs. Chase Trussell (UVU)
Trussell has represented UVU at the Big 12 Championships the last two years, going 0-2 both seasons. He was 10-8 overall last year and 3-3 in duals.
