UNI tennis picked ninth in MVC preseason poll

ST. LOUIS --- UNI tennis has been picked 9th in the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) preseason poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

The Panthers faced many ups and downs during the fall season, but overall displayed great performances by each of its individual members. Andrijana Brkic dominated on the court with an overall 15-2 singles record and managed to take first place in the Drake Invite this past September.

Brkic and her doubles partner, Thaissa Moreira, finished with a 4-4 record as well. Brkic also received 3rd place in the flight 2 bracket at the MVC Individual Tournament. Lorena Cardoso was also able to snag a top-five spot in the MVC Individual Tournament finishing in 5th place in the flight 3 bracket.

Belmont was picked to win the conference title entering their first season as a member of the MVC with 6 first place votes. Illinois State was selected second, followed by UIC and Drake.

The Panthers will kick off their spring season on the road against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on January 20. UNI's first home dual will take place on January 28 against Omaha at 3 p.m. CT at the Black Hawk Tennis Center in Waterloo.
