UNI women's tennis: Doubles team of Dalecka, Cardoso open Gopher Invite undefeated

MINNEAPOLIS - The Panther doubles team of Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso went undefeated in the first day of competition at the Gopher Invite for women's tennis.
Dalecka and Cardoso opened with two wins. They defeated the St. Thomas team of Emme Johnson and Madeline Bremel, 6-2. Then in round two, beat Lucy Lu and Sarah Badawi of Minnesota, 6-2.
The Panther team of Issa Sullivan and Lasya Mylavarapu opened with a doubles win of 6-3 over Jannah El Nemr and Nicole Snezhko of St. Thomas before losing their next round. Andie Weise and Tiana Windbuchler of Marquette won the final doubles match of the day, 6-4.
Andrijana Brkic and Thaissa Moreira went 0-2 in doubles competition, losing both matches, 603. The first was against Maya Arksey and Anna Medvyedyeva of South Dakota. In round two, the Panthers faced Emma Davis and Elisabeth Desmarais of Marquette.
In singles play, Brkic was the sole Panther to escape with a win in opening competition. She beat South Dakota's Anna Medvyedyeva (6-4, 6-1).
Dalecka fell short to Minnesota's Anet Koskel (6-0, 7-6 (2-0)). Cardoso lost to Lucy Lu of Minnesota (6-2, 6-0). Mylavarapu was defeated by St. Thomas's Nicole Snezhko (6-3, 6-2), and Issa Sullivan fell short to Paige Alter of South Dakota (6-2, 6-3). Thaissa Moreira lost to Angela Georgieva of North Dakota (7-6, (7,4), 6-1).
The Panthers will be back at the Baseline Tennis Center tomorrow morning and wrap up competition at the event Sunday.
