Five Panthers from UNI track and field earn USTFCCCA academic honors

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Five Panthers from the UNI women's track and field team earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's all-academic honors as announced by the organization today.Â
In addition to the individual honors, both the women's and men's track and field teams earned all-academic team honors.Â
UNI's Marin Ehler, Katie Fare, Malory Henze, Mari Shavers and Rylie Todd qualified as USTFCCCA track and field all-academic athletes and competed at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.Â
Ehler, a movement and exercise science major from Ossian, Iowa, is No. 6 on the all-time list for her shot put throw at the 2022 outdoor Missouri Valley Championships, which earned her third place and all-conference honors.Â
Fare, a movement and exercise science major from Loves Park, Illinois, is second on the program's all-time list for shot put with a throw of 16.14 meters (52-11.5). Fare and Ehler finished 36th and 41st in shot put at the West Prelims.Â
Henze, a graduate student who majored in community health & recreation from Marshalltown, Iowa, holds the second best discus throw in program history. She finished sixth at the 2022 MVC Championships and took 43rd at the West Prelims.Â

Shavers, a criminology major from Waterloo, Iowa, finished the 2022 outdoor season with the program's fourth best hammer throw. She finished 35th at the West Prelims in the event and earned all-America honors competing for Hawkeye Community College in 2020.Â
Todd, a communications and public relations major from Burlington, Iowa, won the 2022 MVC outdoor championships in high jump. She has the third best mark in program history.

To earn team honors, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the team must be 3.0 or higher, including the most recent grading period.
The UNI women posted a team GPA of 3.55 and the Panther men wrapped up the year with a 3.17 GPA as a team.Â

CRITERIAÂ
The USTFCCCA individual honors for the outdoor season were earned based on academic and athletic requirements. Student-athletes had to have at least a 3.25 GPAÂ in addition to qualifying for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Final Championship Competition).ÂTo earn team honors, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the team must be 3.0 or higher, including the most recent grading period.
