UNI track and field: Tom Yezek qualifies for 2022 NCAA championships

UNI track and field at 2022 West Preliminary Rounds
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - UNI track and field qualified an additional Panther for the NCAA Championships set in June.
Tom Yezek opened the day at the 2022 West Preliminary Rounds with a discus throw of 55.32 meters (181 feet, 6 inches) to take 11th. Yezek was the final thrower of the event and had secured his spot at the NCAA Championships at No. 12 when he tossed out his best throw of the day to move up a spot and earn an NCAA berth.
Darius King, who has qualified for the championships in shot put, just missed out on a spot in discus as well. He finished 13th with a throw of 54.83 meters (179-10).
In the quarterfinals of the 100-meter dash, Isaiah Trousil tied his personal best of 10.23 seconds but fell outside the top 12 spots needed to advance. He continues to hold the second fastest time in the program history at UNI.
After running a career best of 20.58 in the 200-meter dash in the first round, Parker Kiewiet was edged out of a qualifying spot to the championships. He finished 15th in the quarterfinals with a time of 20.70 seconds.
UNI's two qualifiers is the most since 2016 when three Panthers earned a spot at the NCAA championships. UNI qualified Paige Knodle in the heptathlon, Justin Baker in the hammer throw and Brandon Carnes in the 100-meter dash. The Panthers have two more competitors in field events on the final day.
Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships held June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Rylie Todd, who is the MVC high jump champion, will close out the West Prelims at 2:30 p.m. in high jump. Her jump of 1.76 meters (5-9.25) is the third best mark in school history.
