CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- UNI Athletics and head soccer coach Bruce Erickson have agreed to a two-year contract extension that will have his tenure continue through the 2024 season.
"In the short time Coach Erickson has been with UNI, he has shown a commitment to helping our student-athletes succeed on the field and in the classroom," said Director of UNI Athletics David Harris. "We are grateful for his leadership and appreciate the lofty goals he has set for our Panthers. We look forward to working with him to make those goals a reality."Â
Erickson has been with the Panthers since February 2017 and is heading into his sixth season as the head coach of UNI soccer. In that time, Erickson has guided the Panthers to two winning seasons with multiple post-season honors. Erickson has had multiple student athletes honored by the MVC for their play on the field including two members of the All-MVC First Team and 17 members of the second team and honorable mention team.Â
Erickson also has helped Panther soccer in the classroom. The UNI soccer program has consistently raised its GPA with a 3.65 team GPA after the fall semester in 2021. The program also has been a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award recipient for the past three years under Erickson's guidance.Â
"I am excited to continue at UNI under the direction of David Harris," said Erickson. "We have accomplished much in a short period of time and continue to push forward in building a strong culture with continued success on the field and in the classroom. With continued support from UNI, I believe we can accomplish all of our goals. The new game field and locker room are game changers and will help us tremendously."
Prior to his time at UNI, Erickson served as the head women's soccer coach at Wayne State (Nebraska) for two years and as the head women's soccer coach at Creighton University from 1999-2014. Erickson guided Wayne State to nine victories in 2016, the most wins for the NCAA Division II program since the 2006 season. At Creighton, Erickson was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year (2002, 2010) and helped guide the Bluejays to five Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championships, two Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season Championships and led Creighton to five NCAA Tournament appearances (2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010).Â
Erickson currently lives in the Cedar Falls area.Â
