
UNI track and field sweeps MVC Field Athlete of the Week honors

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - UNI track and field swept the weekly MVC Field Athletes of the Week honors this week.Â
Darius King picked up his fourth consecutive honor as MVC Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in shot put and discus last weekend. It was the fifth consecutive week a student-athlete from the men's team earned the award.Â
On the women's side, Malory Henze was named the MVC Female Field Athlete of the Week.Â
Henze had a career best throw in discus at the Wisconsin Classic to take over the lead in the Missouri Valley Conference. She took second place at the meet with a throw of 52.28 meters (171 feet, 6 inches). The throw was nearly 20 feet farther than her previous personal best. She is now ranked 34th among the Western qualifying list and 61st nationwide.Â
A native of Marshalltown, Iowa, Henze is the daughter of Craig and Tedra Henze. She is a graduate student completing her degree this week in communications.Â
King pulled double duty in the shot put and discus throw at the Wisconsin Classic. He threw 19.91 meters (65 feet, 4 inches) in the shot put to take second in the event and followed it up with a second-place toss in the discus behind teammate Tom Yezek.Â
He threw a career best 57.09 meters in discus (187-3), which puts him 39th in the nation for discus and second in the Missouri Valley Conference. King and Yezek pulled away from the MVC field in discus with their performances last weekend.
King continues to lead the MVC in shot put and is sixth in the nation for the event.Â
King made his third NCAA championship appearance at the 2022 Division I National Indoor Track and Field Championships. He earned second team all-America honors with a 10th-place throw of 19.58 meters in the shot put.
King finished seventh in the 2021 NCAA outdoor championships with a toss of 19.69 meters.Â
He was 12th at the 2021 NCAA indoor championships. He was then invited to participate in the 2020 Olympic Trials, finishing 12th with a toss of 18.43 meters.

King is a graduate student from Moline, Illinois. He is the son of Reginald and Beverly King. He majored in computer science and technology management with a minor in data science and graduates this weekend.Â
